How to Create a bootable USB flash drive with Windows 10

When you are likely to install a new copy of Windows 10 from USB, one of the requirements involves getting the media to start your computer with the installation wizard. However, if you have newer hardware, chances are you’re using the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI), rather than the legacy Basic Input / Output System (BIOS). If this is the case, you must also ensure that the boot device confirms the firmware type before you can continue with the installation. So this time, I thought about trying the free utility called Rufus. Their usage is shown below, and in the end, you had a faster experience than the old Microsoft tool.

This is the old and trustworthy method to create a bootable device for Windows installation. Its name may confuse you, but it is also working for Windows 10 too. Users can easily make a boot disk from an iso image file with this utility.

This process needs an empty USB memory (Min: 8GB). Quickly format the USB drive first.

After finishing your installation, run it.
It will create a USB / DVD boot installer.

Create a Windows 10 bootable USB flash drive with Rufus

To get started, be sure to download Windows 10 Technical Preview by joining the Windows Insider Program. Also, make sure you are using a USB drive that is at least 4GB for your 32-bit version and 8GB for your 64-bit version.

Here is one of the first cool things about Rufus is that installation is not required, which means you can paste it to a network location or other external drive (HDD) to run it. When you run it, setting it up is simple. Choose the USB (universal serial bus) drive you want to use, select your partitioning strategy; It’s worth noting that Rufus also supports a bootable UEFI drive.

Then select the disk icon near the ISO drop-down menu and navigate to the location of your official Windows 10 ISO.

After clicking Start, it will be ready in a few minutes. If you want to be cautious, check the option to verify that the device has no bad blocks. I did not do this, and my boot drive worked fine.

Using the old USB 2.0 port and drive, it took less than 5 min to create the drive. If you want to use a USB 3.0 or 3.1 setups, I’d like to know how fast it works.

How to create a Windows 10 UEFI bootable media using the media creation tool

If you plan to update or install a new copy of Windows 10 on a system that uses UEFI, you can also use the media creation tool to create a compatible bootable media / drive. Simply insert a USB flash drive with at least the 4GB of storage into your computer, then use these measures:

Open the official Download Windows 10
Under “Create Windows10 Installation Media,” click the Download Tool Now button.
Click on Save.
Click the Open folder button.
Double-click the MediaCreationToolxxxx.exe file to start the utility.
Click on OK. Button to accept Microsoft’s terms.
Select on the create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file) button for another PC option.
Click Next.
Select the correct language, architecture, and edition for Windows 10 if the default selection does not reflect the desired options.
A quick tip: Under “Architecture,” you can select the Other option to create a bootable device that works for devices that use 64-bit and 32-bit processors. Also, if you can’t change this setting, be sure to clear the Use the recommended options for this PC option.
Click Next.
Select the USB Flash Drive button option. (If you do not see the drive, click the Refresh drive list option).
Click Next.
Select the removable drive from the list.
Click Next.

Once you have completed these steps, the wizard downloads the Windows 10 installation files and will create the bootable media with support for UEFI and legacy BIOS.
