Delete these 17 malware-infected iPhone apps immediately

Cybersecurity company Wandera has discovered that 17 iPhone apps that were available on the App Store are infected with malware. We tell you what they are so you can remove them as soon as possible if you have them installed.

Wandera’s report points out that the malware it has detected in this group of applications is a clicker Trojan. This virus is designed to carry out tasks related to advertising fraud: it works clandestinely in the background and, among other actions, clicks on certain links or opens some web pages continuously.

In this way, cybercriminals manage to inflate the number of visits to certain content and obtain fraudulent advertising revenue at the expense of the victims.

All apps that contain the Trojan have been developed by the same company, called AppAspect Technologies Pvt, based in India, and belong to various categories, such as productivity, utilities, or travel. Here is the list of the 17 infected iPhone apps:

  • RTO Vehicle Information
  • EMI Calculator & Loan Planner
  • File Manager – Documents
  • Smart GPS Speedometer
  • CrickOne – Live Cricket Scores
  • Daily Fitness – Yoga Poses
  • FM Radio – Internet Radio
  • My Train Info – IRCTC & PNR Status
  • Around Me Place Finder
  • Easy Contacts Backup Manager
  • Ramadan Times 2019
  • Restaurant Finder – Find Food
  • BMI Calculator – BMR Calc
  • Dual Accounts Video Editor – Mute Video
  • Islamic World – Qibla
  • Smart Video Compressor

To function, once the victim has installed the app on their device, the Trojan communicates with a C&C server to carry out the malicious activity. According to the researchers, this is the same C&C server that had already been identified in another very similar Android malware campaign. In that campaign, apart from carrying out the actions of advertising fraud, the malware also subscribed to the victims to expensive content services.

Wandera communicated to Apple the results of its investigation, and the Cupertino company has removed the infected applications from the App Store, except for two of them (My Train info – IRCTC & PNR Status and Easy Contacts Backup Manager). Review the list carefully and, if you have one installed on your iPhone, delete it as soon as possible.
